Singapore Airlines, which began nonstop round-trip flights between Las Vegas and Hong Kong last summer, announced today that it won't reinstate service that was canceled last month.
The airline said last month that it had temporarily scrapped its twice-a-week round trips to and from Hong Kong in April in response to reduced demand resulting from the war in Iraq and the outbreak of the SARS virus. But the airline has indicated since flights began last August that it was not happy with the passenger loads the flight was generating, particularly those originating from Las Vegas.
The company operated a twin-engine Boeing 777 on the route, which included continuing same-plane service to Singapore to and from Hong Kong. McCarran International Airport said the airline flew 10,199 passengers to Las Vegas in 2002 and in the first two months of 2003, had 4,585 more.
