Two children critical in near-drowning incidents

Two children were in critical condition from near drownings in separate incidents within a 24-hour period, authorities said.

A second child was rescued Wednesday night from the bottom of an apartment complex pool near Nellis Boulevard and Cheyenne Avenue, authorities said.

A University Medical Center spokesman said both boys were in critical condition at the hospital late Wednesday night.

It was the 14th near drowning in Clark County this year.

Two people standing poolside jumped into a pool at the Oasis Apartments and recovered a 5-year-old boy about 6 p.m. on Wednesday.

A 1-year-old boy was still in critical condition at UMC Wednesday night after nearly drowning in a backyard wading pool.

North Las Vegas Police detectives believe the drowning was accidental, but were investigating the near-drowning.

The toddler was discovered missing from the living room of his home in the 2600 block of Vana Avenue by his 13-year-old sister about 7:15 p.m. on Tuesday, North Las Vegas Police Department spokesman Justin Roberts said.
