Employees at the state's largest hospital have overwhelmingly ratified a new three-year contract.
A representative of Service Employees International Union Local 1107 said Monday that 97.3 percent of those voting ratified a contract at Sunrise Hospital and Medical Center and Sunrise Children's Hospital. The union did not disclose how many voted, but it represents about 2,200 hospital employees.
A spokeswoman for SEIU said the economic package in the new contract improves health care and pay by as much as 34 percent over three years. The top pay for registered nurses at Sunrise has been about $28 an hour, about $2 an hour below the market rate.
"This new contract should help us recruit and retain future health-care workers and employees," said Cheryl Smith, a spokeswoman for Sunrise Hospital.
