Fort to celebrate 148th anniversary
The Old Las Vegas Fort State Historic Park will celebrate the 148th anniversary of the founding of the fort during ceremones at 10:15 a.m. Saturday at 500 E. Washington Ave.
To honor the event, the Soldiers of the Old Fort will present a program on the Mormon Militia from Nauvoo to Las Vegas. Also, guided tours of the fort will be available upon request and visitors will be allowed to pick any of the ripe vegetables from the garden to take home.

Church planning anniversary event
Community Lutheran Church will celebrate its 30th anniversary at six of its worship services beginning at 6 p.m. Saturday at the church, 3720 E. Tropicana Ave.
The celebration is in honor of what the church has accomplished as well embracing the plans for the future; including planning a satellite campus, beginning an extensive mentoring program and hosting a charter school.

Points of Light nominations due
The Nevada Commission for National and Community Service announced that nominations for the annual Governor's Points of Light Award will be accepted through Aug. 1.
The award ceremony recognizes individuals and organizations for their dedication, commitment, and determination in promoting and supporting volunteerism throughout the state. In addition to receiving recognition, the NCNCS honors each recipient with a $1,000.

Sunrise to host class for dads
Sunrise Hospital and Medical Center is holding a "Dads, You're Special" class at 7 tonight at the hospital's auditorium, 3186 S. Maryland Parkway.
The free program, at which wives are welcome, is geared to teach expectant fathers what to expect when a new baby arrives, how to balance family work and other parenting issues. Call 731-8703.
