Women of Distinction Awards set Saturday

The National Association of Women Business Owners will hold its fifth annual Women of Distinction Awards dinner at 6 p.m. Saturday J.W. Marriott, 221 N. Rampart Blvd.

Part of the proceeds will benefit the Foundation for an Independent Tomorrow, a nonprofit organization that provides under- and unemployed Nevadans with education as a means to elevate their earning power.

The event will include a silent auction, the awards ceremony, dinner, raffle and auction.

Tickets are $100 apiece.

Week of Prayer targets HIV/AIDS

These churches will incorporate the topic of HIV/AIDS into their services in recognition of The Black Church Week of Prayer for Healing of AIDS:

Thursday: 7 p.m. to 9 p.m., Greater Mt. Sinai Missionary Ministries, 1025 Balzar Ave., 648-2300.

Friday: 7 p.m. to 9 p.m., First AME Church, 2450 Revere St., 649-1774.

Saturday: 9 a.m. to noon, Second Baptist Church, 500 W. Madison Ave., 648-6155.

The American Red Cross

of Southern Nevada will hold a Pet CPR class from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m. Thursday at the ARC office, 3672 N. Rancho Drive. During the four-hour class pet lovers will learn life-saving "Mouth to Snout' techniques. The class cost $35 which includes a Pet First Aid reference book. To register for the class, call 791-3311.

Lake Mead Hospital Medical Center,
