PROVIDENCE, R.I. -- Rhode Islanders spent on average $1,115 on lottery-sponsored gambling in 2002, meaning the Ocean State remained first in the nation in per-capita spending on gambling, according to a report.
The calculations include spending on scratch tickets and Keno, but the vast majority of money went into video lottery terminals.
Delaware placed second, with a per-capita average of $842. South Dakota was third, at $828, according to the study made public last week by the state lottery. The Rhode Island Lottery has about $1 billion in sales.
