Three trucks crash on interstate

Wed, Jul 21, 2004 (11:11 a.m.)

Three semi-tractor trailer trucks crashed on Interstate 15 this morning about 20 miles south of Primm, creating a dramatic scene, but causing only minor injuries to the drivers and little traffic tie-up, according to California Highway Patrol officials.

The crashes occurred near a rest stop in Cima, Calif., police said.

About 5:30 a.m. one truck on the northbound side crashed and burned, according to a spokeswoman for the highway patrol's Barstow dispatch center, which responded to the call.

About the same time two other trucks crashed on southbound I-15, the spokeswoman said.

Traffic was already slowed down by ongoing construction, and the crashes did not create additional delays, police said.

Northbound traffic was shut down to one lane as police cleared debris from the burned truck off the road. One truck appeared to be carrying sheetrock while another had computer printers, police said.

Police are investigating whether the crashes were related.
