Missionary will speak in Laughlin

The Rev. Gus Guppenberger of Glenmary Home Missioners will speak Saturday and Sunday during Masses at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Laughlin about missionary work in Appalachia, the South and Southwest.

In his 40 years as a home missioner, Guppenberger has served in Glenmary missions in Georgia, Kentucky, North Carolina and Texas.

Founded in 1939, Glenmary is a Catholic society of priests and brothers who, along with co-workers, minister exclusively in the United States, serving counties where less than 3 percent of the population is Catholic and the poverty level is almost twice the national average.
