Last week the print media -- especially what appeared in the Sun -- and the TV coverage were outstanding. There are not many national days of mourning, and how we, as a society and a democracy, handled the passing of the 40th president was a model of decency and respect for all the world to see.
I began to believe President Reagan must still be somehow influencing his departure; so perfect his farewell played out. From the timing of his death, coinciding with the Normandy anniversary, and having many world leaders already in our country for the G-8 Summit, making it more convenient for them to attend the services; to the gentle mist that fell in Washington Friday morning, to the day's conclusion with a picture-perfect sunset in California.
Ronald Reagan's kind may not pass this way again. With optimism, he was a big as the Grand Canyon; With spirit, he was at tall as the Statue of Liberty. America was richly blessed with this man and the contribution he made during his 93 years.
