Clark County Commissioner Lynette Boggs McDonald was named to the National Association of Counties board of directors last week at the 2004 conference of the Nevada affiliate in Sparks.
As one of two state representatives, Boggs McDonald will represent Nevada's 17 counties on the national organization's board during the one-year appointment.
"All 17 counties in our state are faced with similar challenges such as budgetary constraints and the demand for more public services to name a few, and I'm looking forward to developing solutions and results that mutually benefit all counties in Nevada," said Boggs McDonald, who is a former Las Vegas city councilwoman and a past president of the Nevada League of Cities and Municipalities.
The National Association of Counties allows one representative from each state to sit on its board. However, two board seats are provided to those states, such as Nevada, whose counties are all members of the national organization. In addition to Boggs McDonald's appointment, the Nevada Association of Counties reappointed Washoe County Commissioner Pete Sferrazza to the national board of directors.
Hosted by Washoe County, the annual conference of the Nevada Association of Counties included educational seminars and vendor exhibits for the more than 450 elected officials, county staff members and citizens. The Nevada group identified four top challenges faced by all counties in Nevada: Demand for more public services, budget constraints, open meeting law changes and issues of homeland security.
"It's clear that Lynette understands that county governments face the same issues statewide," incoming Nevada association executive director Andrew List said. "Her broader view will serve the National Association of Counties board of directors well."
