Arrest made in series of ‘90s rapes

Metro Police on Tuesday arrested a 38-year-old man believed to be responsible for a series of rapes in the late 1990s in the East Flamingo Road area.

Dushon Green was booked into the Clark County Detention Center on 34 counts of sexual assault-related crimes, Lt. Jeff Carlson of the department's sexual assault section said.

Detectives issued the arrest warrant Tuesday after DNA evidence linked him to five sexual assaults and investigators with the Criminal Apprehension Team took him into custody at his home on Cambridge Street near Desert Inn Road and Maryland Parkway.

Police allege Green terrorized southeast Las Vegas between December 1996 and March 1998.

The rapist was known to follow a pattern in which he dressed in black -- including a mask and gloves -- and stalked the victim, police said, choosing women who lived alone. In the early morning hours he would break in through a sliding glass door, rape the occupant, then leave.

He would typically claim to have a weapon but never showed one.

The victims lived in the same part of town -- near Flamingo between Pecos Road and Mountain Vista Street -- in homes away from high foot-traffic areas.

In March 1998 the attacker left behind a black wool skull cap in a would-be victim's apartment. She fought him off and the cap fell from his head in the scuffle. Police had DNA evidence from body fluids at the scenes, according to the arrest report.

In late April 1998, police said they believed the publicity about the rapes resulted in the attacks stopping.
