Letter: No funds left for Bush’s promises

Thu, Sep 16, 2004 (9:38 a.m.)

It's impossible to sit back and say nothing after this past Republican National Convention. It goes to show that this party will say anything to get its candidate re-elected.

Things were brought up regarding Sen. John Kerry's voting record that took place after the Cold War when Republicans and Democrats alike voted for cuts in military spending, yet they distort and make this seem like a "flip-flop."

The one who needs to defend himself is George W. Bush. He didn't heed the warnings prior to 9/11. It was the firemen and policemen who were the real heroes that fateful day!

In addition, George Bush won't promise new taxes, yet he makes big promises of how he's going to help with job training and education. The fact is that starting in 2006, there will be big cuts in education, job training and in cost-of-living allowances for pensioners.

If you don't believe me, check out the administration's budget report for 2006-2009. If Pell grants and job-training money is cut, where does that leave students and workers who can't otherwise afford college and those whose jobs have been outsourced?

I saw no real help for those who still seek medical plans and help with prescriptions costs. Medicare Part B premiums are also going up. Nevada voters need to wake up and see clearly how things really stand.
