The Boulder City Council on Tuesday unanimously agreed to allow two businessmen to build a motorcross track in Eldorado Valley in a deal expected to bring in almost $60,000 annually.
The city agreed to award Dale Matteson and Jim Provencher a 30-year lease that allows the two men to construct and run a 50-square-acre motorcross recreation park off U.S. 95, the highway to Searchlight.
The park, which would function as a motorcross track for four-wheel all-terrain vehicles and and motorcycles, is expected to be completed in fall 2005.
"We just found a need and filled it," said Matteson. "(Motorcross) is a really fun activity."
Tentatively titled Boulder City Motorcycle, the park would feature several sections, including an area with a smaller-scale racing track for children ages 5 and up, a large, winding track and an area for elderly riders called the "vet track," said Provencher, who also operates the Mesquite Motorcross park.
The City Council appeared to favor the idea of a "vet track," with Councilman Mike Pacini saying he looked forward to the groundbreaking ceremony so all the council members could suit-up and take advantage of the track.
