HARTFORD, Conn. -- Several state lawmakers and officials of towns in eastern Connecticut are backing a plan by Gov. M. Jodi Rell to provide $250,000 to the five towns surrounding Foxwoods Resort Casino and Mohegan Sun.

The aid payments, which are part of Rell's 2006-07 budget proposal, are intended to defray some of the impact of the casinos on the towns, including costs associated with roads and educating children of casino workers.

Rep. Kevin Ryan, D-Montville, told members of the Planning and Development Committee that Mohegan Sun has been a good neighbor.
