CHARLESTON, W.Va. -- The 3,200 "backside workers" who care for and train horses at one of West Virginia's four racetracks have withdrawn their support of legislation that would legalize casino-style table games at the tracks.
The Mountaineer Park Horsemen's Benevolent and Protective Association has balked at the way the pending legislation (House Bill 2848, Senate Bill 442) divvies up table games proceeds.
"The table games bill that was introduced is not fair to horsemen," HBPA President Charles E. Bailey said in a statement last week.
