Casino developers sweeten offer to Dona Ana County

ANTHONY, N.M. -- Backers of a proposed casino in Anthony plan to offer more concessions to get Dona Ana County commissioners to agree to the deal.

The backers plan to make a proposal at today's commission meeting that would give the county more money, said commission Chairman Bill McCamley.

The commission, which got two new members this year, has become increasingly cold toward the casino.

The previous commission approved a deal in December between the county and Jemez Pueblo, which proposed the casino along with Santa Fe developer Gerald Peters.

The county would have to get more than $500,000 a year to compensate for the increase in services the casino would need.

Sunland Park Racetrack and Casino owner Stan Fulton, who opposes the Jemez proposal, plans to make a counter presentation, McCamley said.
