Letter: Atheists deserve representation

Tue, Sep 27, 2005 (9:23 a.m.)

I read your Sept. 19 article, "Former Nevada senator becomes lobbyist for the nation's atheists." I think Lori Lipman Brown is very courageous to become the executive director of the Secular Coalition for America so she can speak out and stand up for those American citizens who are in the closet on this issue.

Just because these citizens do not believe in God does not mean that they are bad people. On the contrary, they work, they pay taxes, they are in the military, they get married and have families and they love America. Believing in God has nothing to do with being a good or a bad person.

I wish Lori Lipman Brown the best of luck with her goal of keeping religion out of government and winning respect for a stigmatized minority.
