Letter: Aluminum raiders discourage recycling

Sat, Dec 8, 2007 (7:27 a.m.)

On Monday there was another reason not to recycle. On that morning it was our regular day to have the recyclables picked up. I put them curbside the evening before because the pickup is early in the morning.

During the night the raiders come to pick out the aluminum cans. The worst part is they leave a mess curbside. This is not the first time this has happened - this goes on every recycling day. Republic Services and Clark County want the people to recycle, but if the raiders do this to people and we have to clean up after them, why should we?

Where I moved from, taking from the recyclables container was a crime of stealing. We were given a rebate on our trash bills for doing the recycling.

With this continuing need to clean up after the raiders, I am not encouraged to recycle.
