FLASHPOINT for Jul 14, 2007

Sat, Jul 14, 2007 (7:05 a.m.)

Whatever else she does in her congressional career, Rep. Shelley Berkley's activism on behalf of a former constituent imprisoned in Kazakhstan will be remembered as one of her shining moments. Without her tireless and mostly out of the spotlight advocacy for Mark Seidenfeld, he may well not have been acquitted last week. He's still not out of the country, but Berkley, who traveled there last week, is the reason he will be finally able to leave. It was almost comical that when Berkley arrived there, one Kazakhstan media organ put out a quote from her that read: "I know that People's Assembly of Kazakhstan is very important instrument for future of Kazakhstan." Really, she said it like that? I doubt it.
