Letter: It would be terrible to split School District

Tue, Mar 20, 2007 (7:12 a.m.)

I wish to state, emphatically, that I am opposed to the proposal to divide the Clark County School District into two different jurisdictions.

Obviously, proponents of the proposal are aware of the tremendous problems involved in such a plan.

There is the division of services, a duplication in purchasing equipment, and what I feel would be an unhealthy competition for services and personnel. The administration is already top-heavy. What purpose would it serve to increase it even further? There is also the problem of how the division of the real estate would be affected.

Yes, the Clark County School District has problems, but those problems would only be compounded with two districts being involved. The district, with all of its problems, has, by and large, served the county and its environs well.

I am a retired teacher of 30 years within the Clark County School District and all of my 12 children attended schools here. I am satisfied with the teaching conditions under which I served, and also satisfied that my children received a "more than adequate" education.

Leave the School District as it is, and strive to improve any inadequate situations that arise.
