In a day when teachers are struggling for decent salaries, university system Chancellor Jim Rogers plays footsies with Richard Carpenter, president of the Community College of Southern Nevada, with a salary boost alone equaling more than what most Las Vegans make.
Although I admit my ignorance because I am not aware of how much of that salary is coming out of the taxpayers' pocket at present, I am sure the day will come when most of it will.
By then, Jim Rogers will have set the bar so high the taxpayers won't be able to afford a college president. Because there is a teacher shortage, perhaps we should do away with his position and hire 10 more teachers instead. Perhaps Mr. Carpenter should be sent packing to oil-rich Houston while we search our own county for someone just as qualified but at more of a bargain price, say ... $150,000.
