Jeremy May, first-aid safety assistant at Elaine Wynn Elementary School, will be deployed to Iraq with the Air Force on April 28. On Tuesday, May was honored with a send-off on the school playground during which he received essays written by all of the students on “How Mr. May is a True American Hero.” Here, clutching his packet of essays and gifts from the student body, May gets a hug from first grader Jennifer Torres as classmate Gisela Ortiz waits her turn following the ceremony. “I’m speechless,” May said about the surprise ceremony. “A lot of guys and girls in uniform deserve the same thing. It’s quite an honor to receive this type of appreciation.”
