LETTER TO THE EDITOR:

Obama smart enough not to be a know-it-all

Sat, Aug 2, 2008 (2:01 a.m.)

Barack Obama has a highly desirable quality for a president: He listens to people.

He has many other qualities, but this one hasn’t received enough attention. Will Rogers observed that “everybody’s ignorant about different things.” This is even truer in this age of specialization than it was in his day.

Obama has a superbrain that seems to include the knowledge that he doesn’t know everything and doesn’t have to. Outstanding leaders surround themselves with experts in many fields who help them work out problems.

Opponents are trying to make a case of Obama’s “lack of experience.” If they are talking about experience of supporting the lousy Bush administration the past few years, well, he didn’t. That’s a testimonial for a wise administrator, that and having his own recommendations killed by the Bush crew’s opposition.
