The pain at the pump is easing a little more each day.

The average price today for a gallon of gasoline in the Las Vegas area is $3.918. That's down 36 cents from a record high of $4.279 set on June 21.

A month ago, a gallon of regular unleaded gasoline was selling for an average of $4.245 a gallon. The price a year ago was $2.872.

Prices in the valley were slightly lower than the state average of $3.958. With the state average dropping below the $4 mark, only 10 states and Washington, D.C., have prices above that level.

The national average today is $3.862.
