Early voting for primary ends Friday

Thu, Aug 7, 2008 (9:42 a.m.)

Registered voters who want to cast a ballot in advance of Tuesday's primary election are running out of time.

Early voting in Nevada ends Friday. Voters may cast a ballot at one of 22 early voting sites open across Clark County instead of heading to the voting booth on Tuesday.

The Clark County Election Department said more people have voted before Election Day than on Election Day in the county since 2000. Early voting locations are available at www.accessclarkcounty.com/elections.

Clark County Registrar Larry Lomax has said he expects light turnout for the primary election, although turnout for the general election could reach 80 percent because of interest in presidential and congressional races.

For those voting on Tuesday, county election officials this morning urged voters to look up their voting location. Voters can find where to vote and their registration status on the Election Department Web site or call 455-VOTE (8683).

"The Election Department is naturally very busy on Election Day and people calling the department on those days typically experience longer than normal hold times," Lomax said in a statement.

About 3,200 people will work at 339 polling places Tuesday. The polls will be open from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.
