Police to beef up enforcement on Tropicana

Tue, Aug 12, 2008 (10:38 a.m.)

Metro Police will be targeting a stretch of Tropicana Avenue this weekend for increased traffic enforcement.

Seven officers will participate in the department's Selective Traffic Enforcement Program from 7 p.m. to 11:30 p.m. Saturday on Tropicana Avenue between Interstate 15 and Swenson Street.

Officers will be looking for impaired drivers, red light violations, and right-of-way, speed and pedestrian violations. That corridor has had 72 accidents so far this year, authorities said.

The increased enforcement is intended to reduce violations in high-crash areas, police said.
