Fire sprinkler activation prompts hotel evacuation

Fri, Aug 15, 2008 (11:19 a.m.)

A downtown Las Vegas hotel was evacuated this morning after someone moving furniture accidentally activated an automatic fire sprinkler system.

Las Vegas Fire and Rescue said the Golden Gate Hotel and Casino, 1 Fremont St., was evacuated at about 9:30 a.m. after a fire sprinkler head was activated on the hotel's second floor. Firefighters quickly discovered there was no fire, then assisted hotel employees with the cleanup of water.

Guests at the hotel were allowed to return to their rooms shortly after the evacuation, fire officials said.

No one was injured and there were no reports of damage.
