Letter to the editor:

A freethinking, independent woman

Wed, Aug 20, 2008 (2:02 a.m.)

The obituary in Saturday’s Las Vegas Sun for Alice Greenspun Goldberg, sister of Hank Greenspun, the former publisher of the Sun, was a beautifully written tribute to a most interesting and lovely lady.

We moved to Sun City Summerlin in 1993 and met her shortly after that. Our memories of her are of her involvement in charitable organizations other than those listed, and she was the only woman I had ever known who could still wear high spike heels at the age of 90.

However, I didn’t realize that with all of her singing talents she was self-educated. I only recognized and admired her independent attitude toward many facets of her life. She may have driven her brother, Hank Greenspun, “out of his mind,” but then don’t all freethinking and high-spirited sisters do the same thing? She will be missed.
