flashpoint:

“I can’t stand John McCain.”

Fri, Aug 22, 2008 (2 a.m.)

“I can’t stand John McCain.” So said Harry Reid, the highest-ranking congressional Democrat, in the newspaper that provides the Sun with the colorful but usually bland wrapper every day. It seems almost silly to ask why the Senate majority leader would say such a thing, even though this is the same man who called the president a “loser” and a “liar.” It’s no wonder his staff cringes every time he does an interview. You just never know what he might say. Maybe Reid was trying to help Barack Obama — my guess is the presumptive Democratic nominee would tell him that next time he wants to help ... don’t. Maybe Reid was just tired. Or maybe, just maybe, he was simply demonstrating Michael Kinsey’s famous definition of a gaffe: telling the truth.
