Golf Hall of Fame inducts new members

Tommy Armour III, Eric Dutt, Louis Redden and Jerry Roberts will be inducted into the Las Vegas Golf Hall of Fame (formerly the Southern Nevada Golf Hall of Fame) on Oct. 14 at TPC at Summerlin.

Armour III, a Bishop Gorman graduate, has two PGA Tour victories (1990 Phoenix Open, 2003 Valero Texas Open) to his credit. He is in 42nd place on the 2008 PGA Tour money list with $1,392,366.

Dutt is a past Nevada State Amateur, Southern Nevada Amateur and Las Vegas City Amateur champion. He is a long-time course operator in Southern Nevada and currently serves as Harrah’s Vice President of Las Vegas Golf Operations, which oversees Cascata and Rio Secco Golf Club.

Redden is a Las Vegas resident who boasts a very successful amateur record and one of the finest short games that you will ever witness.

Roberts is a PGA of America member and served as the long-time head professional at Spanish Trails Country Club before retiring. Noted for his merchandising ability and running one of the premier golf shops in Southern Nevada, Roberts is a gifted player who won his share of area events.

A 10-person committee made up of Las Vegas golf professionals, media, amateur association leaders and Hall of Fame members oversaw the voting process.

Current members of the hall include: Jerry Belt, 1991; Helen Cannon, 2004; James Cashman, Jr., 1998; Clyde Cobb, 1991; James Colbert, 2002; Eddie Draper, 2004; Brady Exber, 2006; Las Vegas Founders, 2004; Robert Gamez, 2002; Butch Harmon, 2006; Ernest Haupt, 1998; Richard Huff, 2004; Stuart Reid, 1991; Chris Riley, 2004; Tom Storey, 2006; and Charlie Teel, 1991.

Piercy wins for second on Nationwide Tour

Las Vegas resident Scott Piercy shot a final round 64 Aug. 24 to capture the Northeast Pennsylvania Classic on the Nationwide Tour.

The victory was the second in three weeks for Piercy, who shot rounds of 66-68-69-64 to finish at 13-under-par 267. He also won the Preferred Health Systems Wichita Open in early August.

The 29-year-old moved into 12th position on the Nationwide Tour money list with more than $232,000. The top 25 receive playing privileges on the PGA Tour in 2009.

Piercy is a Bonanza graduate.
