Nevada Youth Soccer will open its fall season with the Kohl's American Cup festival Aug. 30 at J. Harold Brinley Middle School in Northwest Las Vegas.

There won't be any games at the event, which runs from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., but there will be plenty of competition in skills games that test dribbling and shooting prowess.

The festival will also feature carnival games, food vendors and music. Every player who competes will receive a trophy.

"This is for any level of player, whether it be a beginner, recreational or advanced, to have fun with out the pressure," said Sherry Alexander, Nevada U.S. Youth Soccer vice president. "Any time you have something like this that brings the community together and provides a lot of activities for kids of all ages, it's a lot of fun."

The free event marks its second year in Las Vegas to promote Nevada Youth Soccer, a nonprofit state organization.

Alexander said Nevada Youth Soccer provides leagues for 15,000 players in Clark County. Many of those players will begin their fall seasons on Sept. 6, the unofficial opening day.

"We are looking to grow more because when you have activities available for your youth, you have a better community," she said. "For me soccer is the best sport developmentally for kids to start off in. No matter whether you're big or little, athletic or not athletic, you can play the sport."
