Several events around the Las Vegas Valley, including meetings and school activities, were canceled because of Wednesday's heavy snow. Here is a list:
• Touro University is closing its campus on Thursday.
• Clark County School District canceled all sporting events scheduled for Wednesday night because of transportation safety concerns caused by today's snows.
• Clark County School District cancels classes.
• The storm forced administrators at Del Sol High School to cancel the varsity football team's end-of-the-year banquet Wednesday evening. Del Sol coach Preston Goroff said school officials shut down the school to all activities about 3 p.m. The banquet, which had been scheduled to start at 6 p.m., will be rescheduled for January, after students return from winter break.
• Because of the weather, Holy Family Catholic Church on Mountain Vista Road and Harmon Avenue canceled religious education classes Wednesday night.
• Because of severe weather and road closures, the Boulder City Planning Commission meeting scheduled for 7 p.m. Tonight at City Hall, 401 California Ave., has been cancelled. Commissioners and applicants set to appear before the commission were being notified of the cancellation.
• Due to the weather, the Clark County School District has canceled tonight's community meeting at Lundy Elementary School on Mount Charleston. The meeting was to discuss the possible closure of the school to help the district cut $120 million from its operating budget.
• Wednesday’s storm prompted the cancellation of two after-school events planned at Silverado schools:
— Drama teacher Steven Rankin at Silvestri Junior High School said the production “Stocking Stuffers,” which was scheduled for 6 p.m. this evening, has been canceled because of the snow.
“We have a lot of kids who have to walk home,” he said. The production will be rescheduled for sometime after the school’s winter break he said.
— A.J. Adams, principal at Jack Lund Schofield Middle School, said a notice was being sent out on ParentLink, an online alert system used by the Clark County School District, to tell parents that the winter orchestra concert scheduled for this evening has been canceled. It will now be held at 7:30 p.m. Dec. 17 following the choir concert, which begins at 6:30 p.m.
— Alexander Dawson School communication manager Kristi Delynko said the Summerlin-area school wasn’t going to let the weather put a damper on a school concert scheduled for Wednesday night.
She said the concert would go on as planned and that parents would be urged to be extra cautious on their way to the campus.
"As far as we can tell out there, around our area, the roads are not icing and it's really not accumulating on the roads themselves," she said.
As for classes Thursday, she said a decision on whether they will be canceled would come in the early morning.
Wednesday, the students enjoyed the break from the usual weather, she said.
"We were helping them outside with carpools and they were making snowballs and little mini snowmen," she said.
