Snow On The Strip

Visitors and workers on the Las Vegas Strip experience snow throughout the day.

Clark County School District officials were to go to Mount Charleston on Wednesday to explain to parents why their elementary-school-age children could no longer attend school there and would instead be bused safely down the mountain to another campus, 75 minutes away.

But the district canceled the meeting because of snow.

As one caller to the Sun asked: If it’s too dangerous for district officials to venture up the mountain in bad weather, how could it be safe to have the children ride a bus down the mountain each day?

If Lundy Elementary School closes — in yet another district budget-cutting move — its nine students will be sent by bus to the nearest district campus, in Indian Springs.

There will be no additional cost, officials say, as a district bus transports middle and high school students from Mount Charleston to Indian Springs.

The Clark County School Board has the final say, and will take up the issue when it meets Jan. 22.

The meeting at Lundy Elementary will be rescheduled — for a day when the roads are clear.
