Flashpoint:

Gov. Jim Gibbons decided to meet the president

Fri, Feb 1, 2008 (2 a.m.)

So Gov. Jim Gibbons decided to meet the president and attend Thursday’s event at the last minute after changing his schedule. I’d think it would be a no-brainer for the governor to be there with the president especially when he’s in the same party. Even Mayor Oscar Goodman, who declared his feelings about President Bush “irrelevant,” wanted to be there out of respect for the office or so His Honor told the Sun. But I don’t think Gibbons could pass up the opportunity for a very different reason. Not because Bush is the leader of the free world or because he is the No. 1 Republican in the country. Ask yourself: How many times does Gibbons get to be in a room with a politician who has lower approval ratings than he does?
