LETTER TO THE EDITOR:

Point finger at Congress, not Exxon Mobil

Mon, Feb 11, 2008 (2 a.m.)

Why is it that we don’t get the facts, and then we blame the wrong people in this country?

In response to Steve Rosin’s Friday letter headlined “Wake up and smell the crude, America,” the headline instead should have been “Wake up, America, and smell the Congress.”

Mr. Rosin is right when he wrote that Exxon Mobil’s profit for for the past quarter was $11.7 billion, but let’s go full circle. Exxon Mobil’s profit for 2007 was $40.6 billion, but what was left out of Mr. Rosin’s letter was that Exxon Mobil paid $30 billion in taxes during 2007.

In 2006 the goverment spent $406 billion of our money on, guess what, interest payment on the debt, which is the third largest expense in the federal budget. The national debt is now $9.2 trillion. Now who would you rather have run the goverment, Exxon Mobil or the Congress?
