Dream Zone

I am with some friends that I don’t know in real life in the back room of a movie theater I used to work at. My mom is there and out of it; I assume she has taken too much medicine. I call out to her, but she doesn’t hear me. My “friends” make fun of her. They tell me she is pathetic and doesn’t deserve to live and give me scissors to kill her with. I say, “No way!” One of the girls takes the scissors and begins stabbing my mom. I scream, “Get away from her!” My mom ends up with the scissors in her hand. Every time I try to approach her she puts the scissors up and says, “Leave me alone.” I wake up crying.

Lauri: The friends in your dream most likely represent your friendship with your mom. Has anything happened recently where you feel that friendship has changed or turned on you in any way? You mention that you felt your mom had taken too much medication in the dream. Does she take a lot of medication in real life? And if so, is this affecting your relationship or friendship with her? The scissors represent your desire to cut this behavior out. Killing in a dream is about forcing an ending to something—in this case your desire to end her behavior on the medication ... for the sake of your friendship. Your dreams are your most honest form of expression. Let her know how deeply this is affecting you.

Sherry replies: My mom is on medication now. Her behavior changes when she takes it: She is out of it, confused and sometimes aggressive. I appreciate your expertise and insight. You were very helpful.
