Letter to the editor:

Voters: Don’t make the same mistake

Tue, Jun 17, 2008 (2:01 a.m.)

Don’t you wish that we could do the governor’s election over again?

Gov. Jim Gibbons’ opponent was state Sen. Dina Titus, D-Las Vegas, who is now a candidate for Congress.

Gov. Gibbons has turned out to be such a bust, with his 860 or so text messages in six weeks with a married woman, making Nevada the laughingstock of America.

Sen. Titus would win such a do-over in a landslide.

But if you voted for Gibbons, you can make up for your blunder by voting for Titus as opposed to the incumbent, Republican Rep. Jon Porter.

I will not insult Porter by comparing him with Gibbons. From all accounts he is a nice guy, but that quality alone does not make you a good congressman. Think of Congress as a shark tank, with determined representatives wanting to get the most funding for their districts and their states. That’s simply not Mr. Porter’s style. If that weren’t bad enough, consider that he is a Republican in a Democratically controlled Congress.

Dina Titus should get your vote.
