Letter to the editor:

Education system contributes to health scare

Wed, Mar 5, 2008 (2:05 a.m.)

I read Tuesday that other branches of the Endoscopy Center of Southern Nevada are being closed for investigation. The Burnham Avenue branch is where I had my test done, and it was upsetting to hear it was closed Monday.

I have a CT scan with contrast scheduled to see whether the nodules on my lungs are cancerous. I have decided to take my chances that they are not and will cancel the test. It is not scheduled at one of the clinics that is under fire. I just do not trust any medical facility in the valley after this revelation. I believe the workforce in the Las Vegas Valley has been damaged by the poor education system here.

To graduate from high school you get seven tries to pass the proficiency exam. This incompetency filters down into the workforce and into our medical system as well.

I will go to California to take my tests in the future. This city needs a shake-up fast before there is a great exodus of people. If that happens, the lucrative casino businesses will have to import people from other states to keep afloat.
