Today is the day Gov. Jim Gibbons will meet with legislators and then announce his latest round of budget cuts. The real question is whether he will actually pay lip service to what the lawmakers — Republicans and Democrats — say or whether he will just plow forward with another ill-conceived iteration of “take a broadsword when a surgical knife is needed” approach. If the past is prologue, I doubt we’ll see anything much different from what we have seen. But if Gibbons cuts education and human services any more, it may be the last straw for some. Or so I hope. Tomorrow morning, many Nevadans will wake up to a very cruel April Fool’s joke, discovering they have lost their jobs or their services. And I doubt many will be laughing.
