Letter to the Editor:

Let’s vote on issues, not trivial sidelights

Tue, May 6, 2008 (2:01 a.m.)

I have heard of countries where the citizens study the problems facing their nation, then vote for the candidate they think best able to solve them. Not here, of course.

I’ve heard people say they won’t vote for Sen. Barack Obama because he doesn’t wear a flag pin, and so many clips have been shown of the Rev. Jeremiah Wright giving his hate-filled sermons you’d think the reverend was running for the presidency. Sen. Hillary Clinton is often described using the “B” word, with much criticism of her pantsuits.

Meanwhile, Sen. John McCain wants to continue the legacy of President Bush. Our troops are on a permanent treadmill in Iraq, starting their sixth year, the health care system is in total disarray, schools from kindergarten through college are underfunded, the national debt is soaring by well over $3 trillion during Bush’s time in office, the construction and maintenance of our bridges and highways are neglected, etc.

So, people, it’s these issues that are important and need solving. Don’t let yourself be distracted by all the other fluff.
