More showers in the forecast

Snow possible in higher elevations

Hold onto your hat and keep an umbrella handy today — Las Vegas is getting some blustery winds and rain today.

Showers were dampening the streets in Henderson this morning. McCarran International Airport reported a trace of rain at 6:56 a.m. and .0.01 of an inch at 7:56 a.m., with wind gusts of 25 mph at 9:56 a.m. The National Weather Service is forecasting a 30 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms today for the Las Vegas Valley.

The weather service says a Pacific storm will move across Southern Nevada today, bringing gusty winds and scattered rain. Snow showers are expected in the higher elevations, but only light snow accumulations are in the forecast.

For the Las Vegas area, mostly cloudy skies are expected, with a high temperature today near 65. The normal high for this date is 69 degrees, with the record high of 83 degrees set in 1950.

This morning's temperatures were starting out at 63 just after 6 a.m. The normal morning low for this date is 47 degrees. The record low for today's date was 24 degrees, set in 1938.

Winds will be from the northwest between 11 and 15 mph, and with gusts of 20 mph, the weather service said.

Conditions tonight will be partly cloudy, with a low around 45 degrees and northwest winds between 3 and 7 mph. And Monday will be mostly sunny, a high near 65 degrees, according to the weather service.
