Letter to the editor:

UAW should make some sacrifices also

Wed, Nov 19, 2008 (2:05 a.m.)

The United Auto Workers union has no problem picketing and shutting down U.S. car manufacturers for months just so it can improve its members’ already fantastically generous health, wage and retirement benefits.

The 266,000 workers of GM, Chrysler and Ford cost about $4 billion a month, so let the UAW members bail out their employers by living on strike wages while they donate their time for the next three months.

If they are unwilling to go to the same lengths to preserve their jobs as they would to extort more benefits, why should the rest of us sacrifice to help save their jobs?
