FLASHPOINT:

Unethical quid pro quo

Sat, Sep 27, 2008 (2:01 a.m.)

I had to turn down an offer recently from Nevada Health Care Forum to moderate a panel of experts and politicians. So imagine my amazement when I received an e-mail from the organizer telling me, “While I know you are not available to moderate we would love to have you attend part of the program.” And then this stunner: “If you are interested in attending, we would be willing to allow you free access to the event if you would include a small advertisement in In Business and/or the Las Vegas Sun publications.” That is, you can come to our event and get in for free if you get us a free ad in the publications you write for, which knew nothing about this. That is, a totally unethical quid pro quo — an ad for access. Astonishing.
