Demographic changes in Clark County

Tue, May 26, 2009 (2 a.m.)

Clark County’s population has grown by more than one-third since 2000, though that rapid growth waned in 2008. As does the rest of the country, the Las Vegas Valley reflects the population bulge in Baby Boomers and seniors — the 50-to-64 set has had the largest percentage increase of any age group this decade — but Southern Nevada still trends younger than most states. Hispanics continue to dominate the valley’s demographic landscape. Of the half-million new residents either born here or who migrated to the area from 2000 to 2008, Hispanics made up about 45 percent. Also, the valley’s Asian population grew by more than 80 percent in that period.
