The Boulder City High football team controls its own destiny.
If the Eagles beat Mesquite’s Virgin Valley High on Oct. 23, they will host a first-round playoff game in two weeks. A loss, however, would put them on the road for entire postseason.
“We should be as healthy as we have been all year,” Boulder City coach Alex Kazel said. “We want to host a playoff game, so we need to go out and play to get that second seed.”
Boulder City was defeated 39-7 on Oct. 16 by Overton’s Moapa Valley High in its 3A Southern League opener. But with three teams in the league, and all three guaranteed a spot in the postseason, the Eagles are still alive to achieve their goal of winning the state title.
It’s a goal that would be significantly easier to reach with a victory against Virgin Valley. The win would give Boulder City home field advantage for a playoff game — a contest where the winner advances to the state semifinals.
“We just have to keep working and getting better each week,” Kazel said.
