Preparing for the playoffs

Canyon Springs has struggled in the third quarter of games all year.
So coach Hunkie Cooper was a little uneasy when the Pioneers went into halftime down two touchdowns. Canyon Springs, however, reversed the trend Thursday and played a strong second half to beat Spring Valley 36-33.
“We had a slow start,” Cooper said. “But Devin Rimmey was amazing again.”
Rimmey scored on two rushing touchdowns and led the Pioneer offense down the field throughout the second half. Canyon Springs kicked a field goal with less than a minute remaining to ensure a victory.
“We’ve built some character since we started,” Cooper said. “There were many opportunities to get down on each other and start pointing the finger at each other, but we didn’t.”
Canyon Springs is now 6-2, while Spring Valley fell to 5-5.
