Water main breaks on north end of Las Vegas Strip

Water main break

A major water main broke shortly after 6 a.m., sending a cascade of water along Las Vegas Boulevard, at the Las Vegas Strip's Riviera Boulevard.

Water gushed along the Strip, turning the resort corridor between Sahara Avenue and Riviera Boulevard into a river. Metro Police restricted traffic lanes going south to one lane because of the water. All but one lane has since been reopened.

Las Vegas Valley Water District crews are expected to shut the water off and repair the line.
