Fees at Lake Mead National Recreation Area are set to increase on Jan. 15, giving outdoor enthusiasts less than a month to take advantage of discounted prices.
For those planning to buy annual passes, through Jan. 14, they will be $20 for the first pass and $10 for additional passes. When the new rates are implemented, all annual passes will be $30.
Also starting on Jan. 15, temporary access passes will be good for seven days, instead of five days as before. Cost will be $5 for individuals, $10 for vehicles and motorcycles, and $16 for boats and other water vessels.
The National Park Service estimated the new rates will increase Lake Mead's gross revenue from $3.3 million in 2010 to $13 million in 2014. Funding from recreational fees pays for improvements to park amenities, protection of natural resources and visitor education programs, the park service said.
