Coachella tickets went on sale today, but you won't find an option to a buy a Friday ticket on Ticketmaster. Same for Saturday and our pick for the best day of the fest, Sunday. For the first time in the California desert festival's 11-year history (apart from 2001, when it ran only one day), Coachella is only offering all-weekend passes.

According to the festival's official Web site, Coachella.com, three-day passes--which sell for $269 plus fees and tax--will be exchanged for weekend wristbands in person at the April 16-18 event at the Empire Polo Field in Indio, California.

Needless to say, 2010's new ticket policy has been meet with considerable angst at the official Coachella forum. "I lost my great job last year and am a full-time single parent; my economic recovery has been slow so far. I've been to every single Coachella ever, but probably cannot afford a three-day pass this year," read one post. Another response declared: "I'm just gonna buy a three-day pass, ditch work and get drunk for an entire weekend. Wasn't planning on it, but fate wanted it this way. So I guess I am."

A Friday email to Coachella organizers inquiring about the reason for the change had not been answered by late afternoon.
