The Clark County Commission on Wednesday approved plans for a large solar photovoltaic power plant near Primm.

The Commission voted unanimously to approve a special use permit for the Silver State solar project, which is planned for 7,900 acres of Bureau of Land Management administered land east of Primm.

The plant will produce electricity both for Nevada and California utilities.

The project developer, NextLight, expects to have a draft environmental impact statement on the project released in April and hopes to begin construction before the end of the year.
